What's the difference between the ASUS Transformer 3 and the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro?

SHARE:

The ASUS Transformer 3 (T305) and the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro (T303) are cut from the same cloth, but are decidedly different. To start, we can just look at the visual differences.

Meanwhile The ASUS Transformer 3 (below) has slightly rounded edges and the rear hosts the classic concentric circle design. You’ll also find the ASUS Transformer 3 is a bit lighter and thinner than the Pro version; 790 grams and 8.35 mm compared to 695 grams and 6.9 mm.

Another distinct difference are the inputs. While the ASUS Transformer 3 has a single USB-C plug with Thunderbolt 3 technology, the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro also has a full-sized USB slot and HDMI output. Both include audio jacks, and micro SD memory card slots. Don’t forget that the Universal Dock expands the possibilities of the USB-C port with ethernet, additional full USB ports, and many more connections. One thing the ASUS Transformer 3 has all to itself is a fingerprint scanner along the top edge.

The biggest giveaway would be the infrared camera on the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro (right), which enables facial recognition login through Windows Hello. You can spot the extra sensors on either side of the front-facing camera. One subtle difference is that the ASUS Transformer 3 has a slightly slimmer bezel, producing an 80% screen-to-body ratio.

Under the hood there are a few differences. The storage capacity for ASUS Transformer 3 caps out at 512 GB, and the RAM at 8 GB, while the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro goes up to 1 TB and 16 GB of RAM. There is a small difference in processors. The ASUS Transformer 3 uses a low voltage 7th. gen Intel® Core™ processor, while the Transformer 3 Pro has either an i5 or i7 processor.

There are also differences in the sound systems. The ASUS Transformer 3 has a quad-speaker system, which adjusts based on how you’re holding it. By comparison, the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro has a dual-speaker system. The T305 speakers use one-piece magnets with large diaphragms and are inclused in a rigid fiberglass chamber for strong bass definition and frequency response. Both use smart amps to crank up the volume without resulting in distortion.

What do all of these differences amount to? In the end, the ASUS Transformer 3 is a little better-suited for getting around thanks to a slimmer profile, while the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro bulks up a touch but enables a whole lot of new functions in the process. In short: the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro is built for performance, while the ASUS Transformer 3 has an emphasis on style and portability.
