The ZenFone 3 features a few handy utilities for connecting quickly to Wi-Fi networks. Thanks to QR codes, all you have to do is scan with your camera and you’re connected. Not only does that help you connect quickly to networks at public locations, it also lets you share a Wi-Fi hotspot on your ZenFone 3 with a friend without having to deal with passwords.

Connect to a Wi-Fi zone using QR codes

If you see a QR code for a Wi-Fi network at a coffee shop, library, or any other location, there’s a button right in Wi-Fi settings to connect using it.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to lower the notification pane.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-right to open the Settings screen.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the QR code scanning icon in the top-right.

This will launch the QR scanning portion of the camera app, geared specifically towards logging into Wi-Fi networks.

Conversely, you can use your ZenFone 3 as a mobile hotspot. With a few quick steps, you can display a QR code that your friend can use in the same way to connect.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to lower the notification pane.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-right to open the Settings screen.
  3. Tap More under Wireless & networks.
  4. Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
  5. Tap the toggle at the top to enable the hotspot.
  6. Tap Share network.

The QR code will then be generated, including your Wi-Fi password, SSID, and any other information your friend needs to connect instantly.

As you can see, these tricks with QR codes can help you and those around you get online more quickly than ever. Remember, hopping on Wi-Fi instead of using your mobile service produces higher transfer speeds, uses less power, and saves you precious megabytes on metered cellular connections.
