What Thunderbolt 3 technology does for you

The ASUS ZenBook 3 Deluxe comes with three USB-C ports, and two of them include support for Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 3 is a powerful, lightning-fast, and versatile input technology that lets you get the most out of a slim package. Here are just a few of the things it can do for you.

1. Lightning-fast file transfer

One of the key benefits of Thunderbolt 3 is that it can transfer files at speeds up to 40 Gbps, which translates into roughly 125 megabytes per second. That’s four times faster than the standard USB-C interface. This makes it ideal for connecting to external hard drives that hold large media files like photos and videos. The built-in PCIe® Gen. 3 SSD can amply keep up with these speeds, too.

USB 2.0 -  0.48 Gbps
USB 3.0 -  5 Gbps
USB 3.1 -  10 Gbps
Thunderbolt™ -  10 Gbps
Thunderbolt™ 2 -  20 Gbps
Thunderbolt™ 3 -  40 Gbps

2. Connect to big screens

The ASUS ZenBook 3 Deluxe has a beautiful 14-inch FHD display, but for the full workstation experience, you’ll want an external screen too. To that end, Thunderbolt 3 supports up to two 4K monitors with 60 Hz refresh rates over DisplayPort. This setup is great for those that need to multitask like a pro.

3. Fast and convenient charging

The real beauty of USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 is that your laptop doesn’t need a dedicated port for charging. The same one used for transferring files or connecting to peripherals is also used to charge the ZenBook 3 Deluxe. Thanks to the included fast-charging technology, it can get a 60% charge in only 49 minutes. Though Thunderbolt 3 is the star of the show here, the other two USB-C ports can be used to charge this laptop perfectly well.

4. Add more power – even for VR

When you need more processing power, Thunderbolt 3 allows the ZenBook 3 Deluxe to turn into a fully VR-capable desktop station. The ROG XG Station 2 houses a desktop-grade graphics processor which can handle intensive gaming and video tasks above and beyond the already-ample capabilities of the UX490. Piping in that much processing power through a single small cable is truly incredible. Connecting the ROG XG Station 2 also adds additional USB ports for popular VR goggles like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

5. Versatile connection options

The Thunderbolt 3 plug works well for individual tasks, but one of its biggest selling features is its ability to do double duty. You don’t need a separate plug for power, HDMI and USB; thanks to the included Mini Dock, all of these functions can be piped into the same input. Ultimately this keeps the laptop’s profile slim without skimping on utility.

There’s a lot more to this powerful PC than Thunderbolt 3, though. Visit the ZenBook 3 Deluxe product page to learn more.
