Can a 2-in-1 PC be my only computer?
It’s a common sentiment that when it comes to gadgets, portability and processing power are at opposite ends of a spectrum; if you want one, you have to compromise on the other. Traditionally demands on power supply, displays, and other components have made that true, but with increasing technological efficiency, it’s less and less the case. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.
In the instance of PCs, let’s take a look at the new ASUS Transformer 3 Pro (T303). At first glance, it may seem like just another tablet, but don’t be fooled. This is an honest-to-goodness premium computer that can compete with many laptops.
Is it comfortable to use?
Anyone transitioning from a traditional clamshell PC may be concerned that when they get a 2-in-1 they’ll have to use touch input all the time. The short answer to that is no, the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro can handle like any other Windows 10 PC out there, thanks in no small part to the included keyboard cover with trackpad. For full-sized keyboards and mice, Bluetooth offers easy wireless connectivity, and the full-sized USB 3.0 port opens the door to other wireless and wired options.
Touch is still great for some applications, and can be even more intuitive than a mouse when being used with the ASUS Pen. It has 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity which captures between 10 and 300 grams of force on the tip. Most people draw lines with a force between 70 and 80 grams. The ASUS Pen offers +/- 0.26 mm of precision when writing at 90 degrees, and 0.8 mm when at 45 degrees. 0.2 mm of linearity means little to no jagged lines when drawing curves. A minimum of 52 ms response means you’ll experience zero perceptible lag when using the ASUS Pen. Whether you’re drawing, taking notes, or editing photos, it’s hard to beat this experience.
What about the display?
Perhaps a 12.6-inch screen isn’t viable for all-day work. Luckily, the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro has a full-sized, standard HDMI slot, making it easy to plug into any monitor directly without needing an adapter. It’s incredible that such a thin and light device you don’t have to compromise between productivity and mobility.
For those that want to go all-out, the USB-C port incorporates Thunderbolt 3 technology, which means you can hook up not one but two 4K monitors to the PC.
Is a 2-in-1 PC powerful enough?
With display, mouse, and keyboard taken care of, there’s the issue of horsepower. A single dedicated PC, whether it’s for work or play, has a wide range of demands to meet. With an Intel® Core™ i7 processor, 16 GB of 2133 MHz DDR3 RAM, and up to 1 TB of PCIe x4 Gen. 3 SSD storage, this 2-in-1 PC rises to the challenge. A fan and liquid cooling system push the performance even further than a traditional laptop. Instead of using a traditional copper heat pipe, a vapor chamber captures heat in order to disperse temperature evenly, then the liquid condenses to continue the process. With specs like this, the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro delivers on every front.
Will the battery last as long?
A lot of people use their clamshell PCs day-in and day-out, so being able to get by on a single charge is a high priority. The ASUS Transformer 3 Pro can go for an entire day of constant usage. When you only have a short amount of time to plug in, the 39 Wh battery can get a 60% charge in just an hour.
Are there enough plugs?
For other peripherals you may need access to, the optional Universal Dock has you covered. It includes two USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, full-sized HDMI, audio jacks, a 3-in-1 card reader, VGA, and LAN. Plug in a printer, ethernet cable, SD memory cards, speakers, and more with a wide array of additional inputs.
Even on its own, the USB-C 3.1 jack is incredibly versatile. It can deliver data at up to 40 Gbps, improve charging speeds, and is easy to use thanks to a fully reversible plug.
Don’t think of the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro as a secondary PC just to use when you’re on the move (even though it’s great for that). It is built from the ground up to meet the daily demands on your desk, whether that’s at home or at the office.
This really is an incredible 2-in-1 PC. Be sure to learn more over at the ASUS Transformer 3 Pro product page.
